Draft thread
Yeah this is the draft to get an elite RB prospect. Ekeler is aging and B Rob is looking more and more like a JAG. We're seeing a meta shift now: pairing a good(at least) QB with a stud RB really devastates defenses. Round 2 would be the perfect spot, but if there is a Jahmyr Gibbs-like prospect available in round 1 I'd pull the trigger. We need more blue chip talent and the force multiplier effect of Daniels with a stud RB would be massive.

I wish we would have taken Seattle's Kenny McIntosh last year. He'd be perfect to supplant Ekeler. We will upgrade though no doubt.Warhead36 wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:51 am Yeah this is the draft to get an elite RB prospect. Ekeler is aging and B Rob is looking more and more like a JAG. I wonder if RBs values will start to come back up a bit just because of the 5th year option? You generally don't want to sign a RB to a big deal on their 2nd/3rd contract (with a few glaring exceptions like this year with some truly elite guys), and if you're going to just draft a rookie and run him until the wheels fall off, getting that 5th and maybe 6th year with a tag could be seen as more of a value because the cost of those years is confined and doesn't cripple a team long term. I know that other premier positions like QB, DE, WR would also benefit from this approach for most teams, but hitting on a young RB in the draft, especially if he turns out to be elite, would be another way to get great value out of a position coming back into vogue.

Oh man, what a beautiful sight to see you guys in here talking about the draft. I have missed this so much. I've been watching some college ball and formulating takes too. Some early ones:
- Tyler Warren feels like a strong bet to be BPA if he is still there when we pick in the first round. Looks really special, and sometimes TEs are a bit devalued on draft day. He might be there, and he'd be a really great fit as a second high quality passing game weapon in our offense.
- I love Xavier Watts. I think he's the best defensive player in the draft and he'd be a super blue chip addition to a defense that needs high end talent in order to become championship caliber. I'm a Malaki Starks fan too, but I think Watts is head and shoulders better than him. Right now mocks have him going in the second round, and I don't really understand why. I would pick him at 27 in a heartbeat.
- I think the best linebacker in the class is Jay Higgins. He's getting mocked very late relative to his quality, and I think he feels like a massive value pick in rounds three or four. I think this guy is our eventual Bobby Wagner replacement.
- Andrew Mukuba is my second favorite DB in the class and he's currently getting mocked ~3rd round. This dude flashed as a freshman at Clemson and he's gotten consistently good. He's a stud and I think he was the best player on a really good Texas defense.
- I love Donovan Ezeiruaku too. He's short, but he can convert speed to power and he's got a full rush repertoire and elite pursuit speed for an edge. I'm seeing him mocked in the mid second, but I think he's got value at 27. What I'd love to see Peters do is trade down from our spot at 27 and pick up two early seconds and snag both Watts and Ezeiruaku.
