A Detroit priest who also bills himself as an exorcist was charged in Illinois this week in connection with a November incident in which he allegedly flossed his teeth with the hair of a teenage girl. According to Fox 2 Detroit, Rev. Carlos Martins surrendered to police in Illinois and is facing a misdemeanor battery charge that could land him in jail for up to one year.
Martins was in Illinois in November while working as a traveling priest. While there, he allegedly approached the 13-year-old girl about her hair and asked her if she ever flossed her teeth with her own hair. Martins then picked up some of her hair, placed it in his mouth and made a flossing motion.
A short time later, Martins sat in a pew behind the girl and began growling at her.

One of the 1990s' brightest tech stars may be headed to prison amid a shocking fall from grace that includes everything from alleged anti-gravity tech to elder abuse allegations to claims of a massive Ponzi scheme.
As Bloomberg reports, tech pioneer Joseph Firmage is being sued by people who invested in his anti-gravity quest, which coasted for way too long as his wealth and success dwindled in the face of the former digital guru's obsession with UFOs and aliens.
In the 90s, Firmage was living the dream after becoming an executive at Novell, the company credited with making local area networks (LANs) scalable, at the tender age of 23. After leaving to found the digital design company USWeb, Firmage was named one of Forbes' "Masters of the New Universe" toward the end of the decade — but his success was squandered after he claimed he'd been visited by an alien being who revealed that computer chips came from extraterrestrial technology.
Yes, you read that right. By 1998, just a few years into his tenure as USWeb's CEO, Firmage was asked to resign — and at that point, the "Fox Mulder of Silicon Valley" had little stopping him from taking his outrageous contentions even further.
With his mainstream reputation and career summarily squashed by his intergalactic claims, the still-young tech master began the new millennium surrounded by a new crowd: true believers and other hangers-on who were drawn to his alien attestations and bold vision for a future with clean and limitless energy and an anti-gravity propulsion system, as Bloomberg recounts.
Over the years, as Vega told Bloomberg, the woman and her husband gave the charismatic computer con nearly $100,000, sometimes in installments as small as $200 that he needed for various doodads and repairs. When the couple became concerned that they were being bilked, Firmage would send one of his bigger investors — who Bloomberg did not, unfortunately, name — to smooth out their anxieties.
By 2023, investors like the Vegas began asking for their money back. Firmage, who was also mounting an unlikely presidential bid, promised in a group text thread from July of that year that "Payments and Grants outbound expected to commence this evening." In the end, no such reimbursements materialized — and some of those investors have now filed suit against Firmage, alleging that he conned them out of tons of money.
Not long after that exchange, Firmage was remanded to jail in Salt Lake County after being arrested for elder abuse amid allegations of financially and physically cutting off an 80-year-old woman he was living with — and who had been his late father's romantic partner — from her family and basic necessities like food and water.
By the time Bloomberg got hold of him in October 2024, Firmage had been in that same county jailhouse for nearly a year, with courts saying that if he was released, he'd likely take up the abuse again.
When the outlet spoke to him, the former web wizard seemed much worse for the wear even by his previously kooky standards. He insisted that he could not "admit to a financial crime, because I didn’t commit one" and that he was in jail because he had been — apologies in advance — "gang-raped by an AI-equipped Jamaican financial crime syndicate."

SURFSIDE, Fla. – A 35-year-old man’s behavior with a “Chucky” doll was disturbing enough that police officers recently arrested him in Surfside.
According to an arrest report, Rit Arias was waving the doll of the fictional serial killer at people Thursday along Harding Avenue.
Police officers arrested Arias after he allegedly scared patrons of the Grove Kosher Market, at 9467 Harding Ave., and they had already given him a warning.
Correctional deputies booked Arias, who has a long arrest record, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He faced a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and breach of the peace.

Blind Canadian man has his own tooth surgically implanted in his eye to restore his sight
A blind Canadian man could soon see again thanks to a surprising source: his teeth.
Yes, you read that right. Earlier this week, Brent Chapman underwent one of Canada’s first-ever “tooth in eye” surgeries. While it might sound like something straight out of science fiction, this jaw-dropping procedure has been restoring sight in other parts of the world for decades.
“It is a rare operation that most people have not heard of, even if you are an eye surgeon,” Dr. Greg Moloney, an ophthalmologist and surgeon at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital in Vancouver, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
The procedure, called osteo-odonto keratoprosthesis (OOKP), uses a patient’s own tooth to craft a support structure for an artificial cornea.
The operation is broken down into two parts. First, Moloney and his team removed one of Chapman’s teeth, shaved it down into a rectangle, drilled a hole and popped a plastic optical lens inside.
The tooth then got a temporary home in his cheek, where it will stay for about three months.
“(The tooth) doesn’t have any connective tissue that I can actually pass a suture through to connect it to the eyeball,” Moloney told CTV News. “So the point of implanting it for three months is for it to gain the layer of supporting tissue.”
During the same procedure, Moloney prepared the eye by removing the top layer of the eye’s surface and replacing it with a soft tissue graft from inside Chapman’s cheek. This graft needs a few months to heal so it can support the implant.
Moloney said the initial procedure went smoothly, and Chapman will be monitored closely over the next few months.
When it’s time for the second surgery, Chapman’s tooth will be removed from his cheek and placed into his eyeball.
Moloney and his team will pull back the graft, remove the damaged iris and lens, and sew the tooth (with its new optical lens) into the eye. The graft will then be resewn over the eye, leaving a small hole for the lens to peek through.
The end result is a pink eye with a small black circle through which Chapman will hopefully be able to finally see again.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says on March 4 just after 9 a.m., Northwood High School was placed on lockdown due to a tornado warning in the area. Gary Fenner, 70, showed up at the school to pick up his grandchild. The school resource officer told Fenner he couldn’t check his grandchild out because of the lockdown.
At that point, Fenner reportedly threatened to kill the deputy and charged at him with an umbrella. The deputy then used his Taser on Fenner after being hit with the umbrella. Officials say Fenner managed to stand back up and tried to fight with the deputy. However, the deputy and the school security officer were able to restrain him.
