This is the one part of the season I don’t like. They’ve turned the schedule release into the Macy's day parade. We really don’t need to see every single performance, just send Santa out!
Personally I love it. I enjoy these small leaks and then trying to puzzle together what our schedule could be based on the announced matchups, historical trends, network tendencies, basic logic etc.
So as of this morning, we have two confirmed games:
Week 11 at Miami (in Madrid)
Week 16 vs Philadelphia (Saturday FOX time TBD but either 4:25 or 8:25)
The league also announced a bunch of other matchups. I won't list them all, but based on what was announced, we can infer, assume, and/or predict with some degree of certainty:
-Christmas day game. It won't be at night (that's Denver at KC), but strong chance at Green Bay in the 1 or 4:25 slot since they're also playing in the Week 16 Saturday game. Vs Chicago is also a possibility (Hail Mary and new pope from Chicago symbolism with Christmas lolol), but Chicago is playing Black Friday against Philly and I don't think the league will overload the Bears on holidays, and Philly is playing Green Bay in Week 10 on MNF so GB can't play Philly on Christmas. There is precedence for teams playing on both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
-New York to end the season. I doubt the league will have us end the season against Dallas for a fourth year in a row, and playing Philly Week 16 makes it unlikely we'd play them again in Week 18. We last ended @ NY in 2021 and at home against NY in 2016 so we're kinda due.
-If we play Dallas Thanksgiving, it'll be on CBS as Dallas was on FOX on Thanksgiving last year. That makes it more likely our home game against Dallas will be the FOX 4:25 slot as there is no way FOX is going to concede both Washington-Dallas games, especially since FOX has 11 doubleheaders (as announced by Tom Brady and Erin Andrews yesterday). I guess it could also be a 1 PM FOX game but there is just way too much juice for it to be stuck in that 1 PM slot.
-Amazon Prime shows 16 games (no Week 1 or 18, Black Friday instead of Thanksgiving for Week 13). That means every team I BELIEVE (I might be mistaken) plays one TNF on Prime game. I could see us playing TNF Week 14 if we play Thanksgiving. The last few years the TNF after Thanksgiving has been between two teams who played on Thanksgiving with home teams playing on the road and vice versa. That could be the spot where we play Detroit. Its just a guess but it kinda lines up well.
-International game week 11 and Thanksgiving game week 13 sets up a week 12 bye, but doesn't guarantee it. It would guaranteed be a home game though, and most likely a 1 PM-er, so that's probably a good spot for a team like Seattle or New York in a more ho hum game. Week 10 would almost guarantee be a home game too as the league isn't going to have us travel Week 10, fly back home, then travel again internationally (at worst it'd be a road game in NY or Philly).
I'm kinda trying to logically work out who we'll play in the opener. We know it can't be Philly or Dallas. We're not opening in Brazil against LA Chargers (its all but confirmed they're playing KC) so that removes those two teams. We have a ton of national buzz and momentum so I can't imagine us having a 1 PM game in the opener so that kinda removes teams like Seattle or Vegas. It's gotta be either the FOX 4:25 or a night game. New York has no buzz it likely won't be them.
I'm still sticking with my original pick of Chicago on SNF or MNF Week 1 but could also see us playing in Atlanta on MNF (I don't think they have the buzz to get the SNF slot but MNF tends to be less juicy in Week 1 than SNF).
Things that can NOT happen because those teams are already scheduled games in those weeks:
-Vikings Weeks 4 or 5. They're in Europe both weeks. They PROBABLY will have a bye week 6 so we likely wouldn't play them that week either but like I said that isn't guaranteed anymore (but I'd imagine after two weeks in Europe you're kinda due a bye).
-Broncos Week 6 or 17. They're in London Week 6 and playing Christmas Night in KC Week 17.
-Falcons Week 10. They're in Berlin.
