What do we think about this? Seems like if the Hail Mary fell incomplete or we didn’t win vs the eagles during the 5 interception game the walk would be a lot different. We would still have a winning season but out of the playoffs on rookie QB mistakes.
It's not just about raw volume stats. Jayden's efficiency stats are FAR superior. The analogy is that Caleb is an inefficient, high volume scorer, on a crappy NBA team, but has athletic traits to suggest he could grow into more. Those guys are honestly a dime a dozen. How is he really that different from Trevor Lawrence, other than time in the league?

Also, people talk about how Jayden has the better situation. And, they literally only say that because of how much better Jayden and Washington have been. Before the season, all anybody could talk about was that Caleb has vastly superior weapons. Way better receivers. Better TE. Way better defense. An OC that isn't a retreat that always flames out in the back half of the year. I think it's more logical to say that Washington's cast and offensive coaching look good, BECAUSE Jayden is so good. Jayden looked like 2023 LSU vs Florida or Alabama Jayden vs Atlanta. But with RB's that weren't performing. A WR1 on a gimpy ankle with 1 catch for 5 yards, and a bunch of JAGS at WR.

Caleb has relatively similar volume stats. Jayden has the 4th highest QBR and EPA of any QB in the league. As a rookie. People might not know what those really mean, but they can watch the games and understand instantly that Jayden is dragging a team with a lot of flaws to a playoff berth and their best record in 30 years. And they can watch the bears game and see that Caleb is just as flawed as the Bears team. That's the practical translation of QBR and EPA.

With regards to the what about-ism of, what if we didn't catch the hail mary, etc, we could play the game of, what if our kicker could make an extra point against Dallas? What if we were given the spot on 4th down in the game against Pittsburgh. Every team can do that, about multiple games.

He was drafted to run, football is a violet sport, is what it is...

I've grown to love his rolling like a barrel of whiskey once he's done running up the middle. It superior to sliding and now I agree sliding should be phased out if not outright banned.

Is anyone actually calling Caleb a bust already? Dude's a rookie with decent stats on a bad team. The Bears picked #1 overall last year for a reason. Plus, he's got the handicap of being the QB in freaking Chicago, one of the places QBs go to die.

But those are only a few of the stats. Here's a more complete picture (I hope this formats right on a new board):

Passing

Daniels Williams

Completions 325 330
Attempts 468 533
Percentage 69.4 61.9
Yards 3,530 3,393
Yds/Att 7.5 6.4
TD 25 19
INT 9 6
Sacked 43 67

Rushing

Attempts 144 78
Yards 864 479
Yds/Att 6.0 6.1
Long 46 24
20+ 10 2
TD 6 0

Williams has more completions (by 5) on more attempts, fewer INTs (by 3), and a higher YPA rushing (by 0.1)
Daniels has a better Comp%, more yards (on fewer attempts), higher YPA, more TDs, fewer sacks, and is a better rusher in every category.

In fact, if you add in rushing TDs, it's Daniels over Williams 31 to 19 total. Of course there's always an endless number of arguments in these debates that go beyond actual talent: coaches, scheme, support cast, opponents, "moxie," etc. But outside of NFCN fans, I haven't heard a whole lot of "Caleb is a bust, lol!" in any serious context. Obviously I'm biased towards Jayden, but right now it's not even close between the 2 of them. No reason to write Caleb off yet just because a different rookie took the NFL by storm.

Edit: Damn, the formatting did not hold up on posting but I think it's readable enough as is.

Who else remembers this? Signs were there early and game recognize game.

(it's the Sauce Gardner PC after the first joint practice last summer)

All other rookies had really good defense. JD not so much and makes him so much more special as to how good he is. :)
