2nd Round - Pick 61

Image

Height
6’ 1’’
Weight
195 lbs
Arm
31 1/4’’
Hand
9’’

Overview
Long press cornerback who proved he could make the jump from the Sun Belt to the SEC without a hitch. Amos can disrupt the release and plays with good short-area movement in man coverage. He can get a little lost at the top of the route and needs occasional safety nets over the top. He has twitchy feet to close and sees the action clearly from zone but can be hampered by indecisiveness, despite favorable instincts. Amos uses physicality and length to shrink the 50/50 odds in his favor. He can play in multiple coverage but is most consistent in zone. Amos needs to ramp up his run support and trust his eyes in space, but he has the goods to become a solid starting outside corner.

Strengths
Possesses foot quickness and size to be a problem in press.
Plays with pro coverage agility and transition quickness.
Has body control and footwork needed to stay in phase versus NFL routes.
Twitchy burst and long arms help with catch disruption.
Plant-and-drive is sudden and without stall at the top.
Desired pacing, positioning and vision in Cover 3 looks.
Allowed sub-19 percent completion rate on throws of 20-plus air yards for his career, per PFF.

Weaknesses
Can be a little too quick to open hips to route movement.
Allows unnecessary separation from off-man coverage.
Needs better eye balance and decisiveness from off coverage.
Loses some ground when it turns into a flat-out foot race.
Plays receiver’s hands instead of the ball with back to the action.
Arm tackler and slow to get rid of perimeter blockers.

I loved this pick SO MUCH and I'm a cranky --stard. He was on my short list of targets for a trade down from 29.

Insane value. I really think we've drafted two first round talents.

Loved the Amos pick especially in that range. Keim when taking Hairston for the ESPN special said he knows they like Amos too, it could be either one if they went CB. I preferred Hairston but also liked Amos.

When watching him, my thoughts were Carlos Rogers but with ball skils. I got to rewatch him though now.

Been thinking CB is the bigger need over D line. I'd love to upgrade edge but I do think they can make due with what they have worse case, and also some good edges still on the street.

CB to me is the ticking time bomb position. We had three undersized corners. Love Sainstrill but he might be better in the slot. Jonathan Jones is oldish and coming off a meh season and we signed him on the cheap for a reason. Noah I is decent but nothing killer. Lattimore was a hot mess when he played last season and even if he rebounds, he's often injured.

CB IMO could have derailed this defense in ways I don't expect edge to have a similar issue.

Right on SIP. We all remember the Falcons game where Michael Davis almost cost us the game.

I don't know, I just know when I dug into profiles of CB's, Amos was the 2nd guy I found who could be there in a trade down from 29, I didn't like his age, but I liked pretty much everything else.

What I love about Peters picks the past two years has been:
1. Daniels, a franchise QB, I preferred Maye, but he was one of the best 2 available and ended up being God Mode nearly all year.

2.36 J. Newton: Projected as high as top 12 (PFF), and generally slotted into the 16-25 zone after foot injuries lowered his value. We got him 36th.

2.50: M. Sainristil- I never spell it the same twice, he seemed projected 45-60 from what I recall, we got him at 50 and he was even better than advertised.

2.55 B. Sinnott-A reach for need with a fast riser post combine and pro day. I still like him a lot, but he and Luke in round 3 were reaches.

3.67 B. Coleman: One of the last of the quality tackles and had a positional versatility that the other options didn't, went inside the window of projection.
'25
1.29: Get the 4th I think of 5 OT's, in a draft where the Big Draft Analyst Consensus, agreed, the roof fell out of the position after 4 or 5 guys (the Chiefs dude). Great positional value for a guy projected to go between 21-30 in what I read.

2.61: Amos generally projected in the 25-40 area, we get him 61, and one of the big 5 or so CB's.

When I look at our day 1 and day 2 guys, other than Luke, I can see the justification for all of them and the value of all of them, even Sinnott, who was a reach. In his first two drafts for us I haven't really shaken my head at the value on any picks until the compensatory range of '24 in round 3. There's something awesome about having a Gm who can figure out need, and value and create the perfect balance, like coffee beans and water in a french press. Fantastic.
