Hey all...creating this thread to share your thoughts on what's working for you and/or to ask questions.

So I turned 50 in January and of course that means I needed to do a serious introspection on my life. 😆

I was a scrawny kid (135-140lbs) through high school and probably only got up to 160lb in college. But my adult life has been different as the metabolism slowed and when I got on the scales a month or two back I realized I'm pushing 220, which puts me 50lbs over being healthy (ideal weight). No bueno.

What to do? I have the Dad figure so almost all my weight is my gut. I hate running. Hate. Hate Hate. Tried rowing last year and while I enjoyed it, I just couldn't make it stick. Maybe the gen-x lazy gene is too strong in this one.

Do I just start walking more? I know diet is part of it but not all. Push-ups, etc..and what else that is most efficient at this age?

Thanks for making this thread, TEG. And happy belated 50th.

I feel you, man. Running sucks. If you want to do some cardio, I'd recommend walking 3 days a week if you can. What i did was watch one episode of a 40-50 minute TV show every day while on the treadmill, helps keep your mind off the suckage.

What worked best for me to lose weight initially was a combination of weightlifting and walking. I lift weights 3 days a week and then walk for 15 mins immediately afterwards. Doesn't have to be full gym bro weightlifting, just dumbell work at home doing arms, back, legs, and chest, with a short walk right after, and you'd probably begin to see results in a few weeks.

Diet unfortunately plays the biggest role in weight loss. I'd recommend cutting out sugar as much as you can (soda, dessert, candy, booze 🙁), and try eating meals high in both protein and fiber. And drink a shit ton of water.

I know how cliche it is, but if you can stay consistent with physical activity and disciplined with your diet, you will see results. And the results feel really good, which help keep you motivated.

I definitely need to get with your program Chew. I’m pretty much in the same boat with TEG. I really miss the days when I could eat a whole carton of ice cream, three or four pieces of Popeyes, a sleeve of cookies, or a slab of cake without having to worry about gaining a pound over my usual 170. Nowadays I almost never drink anything sugary or eat desserts, and yet I’m fighting my weight barely to a standstill at 212.

Damn if this aging stuff doesn’t suck. It’s just that it beats the hell out of the alternative.

Aging is definitely not as chill as i thought it was gonna be LOL. I also miss the days when i could eat whatever and it did nothing to the scale or my sleep. I turn 43 on Friday and im sitting here with a knee brace on because eating a bunch of shrimp two days ago gave me a nasty gout flare up 🤣.

They say health is wealth and I get it now. We gotta take care of ourselves today so our 60s-80s aren't miserable.

I had the same problem. But I got even heavier. I‘ve lost about 45 lbs in the last 9 months primarily through a high protein, low carb diet. Also cutting out late night snacks and limiting portion size.

Sometimes it gets old, and I want to slam a couple of slices of pizza, but I generally refrain. It does work.

I’m recovering from a disk bulge in my back so I’m grinding on the 10K steps a day, core strengthening exercises and counting calories at the moment.
