Commanders add John Madden's grandson Jesse to coaching staff

Jesse Madden will serve as the Commanders' offensive quality control coach in his first NFL job. Madden spent the previous four years as a backup at Michigan, first as a quarterback and then as a defensive back.

Madden once told the Bay Area News Group that he grew up studying his grandfather's Raiders teams. During the pandemic in the spring of his junior year in high school, with a new coach and no formal practices allowed, the paper reported Jesse Madden learned 1,600 plays and organized informal workouts.

At the time, his grandfather told the newspaper, "His work ethic is amazing. Even with nothing going on because of COVID, he practiced every day like he was going to play."

Washington also hired Brian Schneider as an assistant special teams coach. He spent 2022-23 in charge of San Francisco's special teams, a position he held in Seattle from 2010 to 2020.

I think this should go here as mainly front office related--- basically, we knew we had a large amount of money to use next year but it appears we'll even have maybe twenty million more than expected 🤩

Former 49ers Exec Decides to Walk Away From NFL Job
Former 49ers executive Martin Mayhew has reportedly retired from the NFL.

Former San Francisco 49ers executive Martin Mayhew is surprisingly leaving the NFL after working the last four seasons with the Washington Commanders. According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Commanders GM Adam Peters told reporters on Tuesday that Mayhew decided to retire.
Mayhew has spent the last four years with the Commanders, serving as their general manager starting in 2021. The former San Francisco executive was Washington’s GM for three seasons until this past offseason when the Commanders cleaned house and brought in a new coaching staff.

With Ron Rivera out as head coach and Dan Quinn taking over, the Commanders’ brass wanted a new GM in charge and hired Adam Peters. Peters worked with Mayhew in San Francisco. However, they did not part ways with Mayhew.

The Commanders re-assigned Mayhew’s role within the organization, naming him a senior personnel executive/advisor to the general manager. Before joining the Commanders in 2021, Mayhew spent some years (2017-20) on the west coast with the Niners.

Think the only thing we didn't score well on was the locker room. IIRC we're in the process of renovating a new one and once we get the new stadium that'll come with a new practice facility anyway.
