Sort of on topic but my Governor ordered us (last night) to RTO 4 days a week (currently 2 days) effective July 1.

Can't say I'm that surprised considering the national stance, even in one of if not the strongest blue states. But I think it's a rare misstep by this governor. I just hope it doesn't end up costing the State a lot of younger workers because of it.

Edit..fwiw the claim that RTO will "improve efficiency and greater collaboration" is mostly bunk. The State primarily uses Teams and even when I am in office, most of us use Teams to communicate rather than space invading someones cubicle and/or hunting down a rogue unbooked conference room.

Edit edit...I'm blessed that I live 7-8 miles from the office but I'm one of the few. My 2 🐕's are going to suffer though with my better half having already rto every day.

About those egg prices. This is gonna get ugly :|

$5 a dozen: major egg companies may be using avian flu to hike US prices, new report finds

Major egg corporations may be using avian flu as a ruse to hike up prices, generating record profits while hurting American consumers, new research suggests.

The cost of a dozen large eggs hit almost $5 in January – a record high in the US and more than two and a half times the average price three years ago before the avian flu outbreak. This signifies a 157% inflation rate for eggs – a previously go-to affordable protein source for many American families.

And while avian flu has been a principal driver of rising consumer egg prices, the highly concentrated egg market may also be contributing to the soaring consumer prices – and the spread of the virus, according to new analysis by Food and Water Watch (FWW) shared exclusively with the Guardian.

“Bird flu does not fully explain the sticker shock consumers experience in the egg aisle … corporate consolidation is a key culprit behind egg price spikes,” said Amanda Starbuck, lead author of the FWW report The Economic Cost of Food Monopolies: The Rotten Egg Oligarchy.

“Powerful corporations that control every step of the supply chain – from breeding hens to hatching eggs to processing and distributing eggs – are making windfall profits off this crisis, raising their prices above and beyond what is necessary to cover any rising costs.”

One of the places I heard they might increase egg imports from is Turkiye.

To help solve its egg price crisis, America is turning to Turkey (the country)

America’s egg shortage has led US businesses to turn to Turkey. Not the bird, the country.

Turkey plans to export 420 million eggs to the United States this year, the most ever, according to the Egg Producers Central Union in Turkey.

The ramped-up exports come as avian flu has killed more than 140 million egg-laying birds in the United States since 2022, and 17 million alone in November and December. Fewer birds means fewer eggs — and higher prices.

“Bird flu is the main reason of increasing export capacity,” said Ibrahim Afyon, chairman of the Egg Producers Central Union in Turkey.

^^ I read the same thing about Turkiye. Seems odd & a long way to travel. Hmmm...now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever inspected a carton of eggs to find the origin country.

On the Canadian & Mexican tariffs: I just learned that products that go back & forth across the borders during the production process, will be hit with a tariff each time it crosses the border. So, tariff on tariff on tariff...

I don't like it, but it needs to be done. America needs to hit rock bottom, its the only way the people will do something. I think ending government benefits will do it, people in the country aren't poor. They're not poor in a world sense, if they start getting a taste of real poverty, losing their homes and can't eat, they will kill. I'll say it this one, last time: if the Trump regime continues down this path, it will end in violence.
Been saying that since day 1. I think Trump actually relishes this thought, and believes he is untouchable because he is President. As a true idiot does, he learned nothing from getting winged last year.
