Want to give a shout out to the Big Ten Tourney champs who should have been a 4 seed at least, but they still are in the Sweet 16. Go Blue..

The transfer portal is dumb.
This is basketball only. And it's happening while the tourney is still going.

Smaller leagues like the Horizon League and MVC are about to get absolutely raided via the portal. Michigan lost Pippen via the portal yesterday, which I think is so dumb.

Looks like Maryland is about to lose Willard. He no showed the Junks this morning. Smoke around Villanova.

That doesn't sound like a promotion. UMD has to have more NIL $ than Nova, right? Especially with UA bankrolling them.

From what was told to me, they spending more NIL dollars for football than basketball. Not sure why it's like that, but that was told to me from a person with some inside knowledge.

I would hope so. Football teams have 8x as many players. Either way I'd suspect the Maryland NIL dwarves Villanova. Much better conference too.

This is all on Damon Evans. Never should have been hired in the first place, and after getting a top flight coach in Willard, he hasn’t backed him like he has Locksley. Willard has had two very good years out of his first three, while Locksley has managed only 2 winning regular seasons, barely, in his 6 years heading the football program. That doesn’t count his 1-5 interim stint in 2015. Yes, Locks won 3 consecutive bowls, but all very minor, oh by the way bowls.
My hope is that the chatter surrounding Evans comes good, and he takes the SMU job. I believe the only way Willard stays on, is if Evans is gone. The Sweet 16 is an accomplishment. This is only the Terps second in 22 years, and Willard has done this in his third season, after just falling short in year one.
Yes, football has many more players, but it also has MANY more that are non factors in actual game time. Basketball programs need stars to be top notch, and stars cost big money. The disparity is huge between the two programs, and only one has a coach that has shown he can deliver top tier teams. Willard has always been second to Locksley in Evans’ calendar, and that needs to change.
Terps men’s basketball team will be losing a lot of talent this offseason, including the 3 bigs that get time, so for them to be competitive next season, Willard will have to hit the transfer portal hard. He will need big time bucks to flash.
Evans has also been remiss in raising funds. Byrd stadium only sells out when big teams come, because away fans show up. Did my head in to see Xfinity with tons of empty seats early in the year, before the guys got rolling. Maryland needs an AD with the cache to get more from the President and trustees, and through grass roots fundraising, and student involvement. Damon Evans ain’t that guy.

22 starters vs 5 starters. I wonder which one costs more.
Last stats I saw was that an average of 77% of NIL goes to college football programs, nationwide.
Basketball was 2nd at 18%. The remaining 5% was being spent on other sports.
