Extreme Commanders

As I said in the Croskey-Merrit thread every year I look at the highlights of the players selected and believe they can all be players. Of course that never happens but I still find myself doing this with this class. A linebacker who can actually cover? When was the last time we saw that? Unless his vision is questionable or he has a habit of too much East/West I don't see how Croskey-Marrit can't be an upgrade over BRob.

I just watched my fave drafted player interview I've seen this year : CB Maxwell Hairston, #1 pick for the bills. He was a guest on GMFB overtime.

Along with Skattebo, this guy will be a must watch for me. Awesome personality and he's been recognized as one of these "freak athletes" for awhile now.

But man, this young man has an awesome personality and should have a super positive impact on any team he joins.

"Execs did not see any surefire top left tackles in the draft, which is one reason the Commanders acquired Laremy Tunsil from Houston. Doubling up with another tackle in the first round — Josh Conerly Jr. of Oregon at No. 29 — sought to solidify the line.

“This is following the blueprint of how to fix an offensive line,” an exec said. “Throw all of your resources at the problem. I’m shocked they didn’t take another one, frankly.”

GM Adam Peters was with San Francisco when the 49ers acquired left tackle Trent Williams.

“There is no development when you do that,” another exec said. “‘We have the young quarterback (Jayden Daniels). Let’s solidify the left side. Then they draft a guy in Conerly who has a ton of upside, can play guard if need be, can slide into that battle at right tackle. He is a high-end athlete, he is young in this class. All that stuff is really, really positive for them.”

The Tunsil trade also returned a fourth-round pick, which the Commanders used for receiver Jaylin Lane. Houston used Washington’s third-round pick for another receiver, Jaylin Noel. The Texans also have Washington’s second- and fourth-round picks next year.

“I saw Lane more as a gadget/slot, but he will probably be their starting kick returner and punt returner,” another exec said, “which gives them some explosive-play value.”

I was just rewatching the Eagles-Commanders championship game. Robinson was as usual against the Eagles "meh". He doesn't see cutback lanes he just goes with the play as is and hopes for the best. Really uninspiring to watch.

Then I turned on Croskey-Merritt again for contrast. He's a dude I happened to watch a lot before the draft so I was stoked when they took him. The wildcard with him is he played inferior competition. Though he looked decent against Texas A & M who have a good defense.

But he has a wicked spin move, decent jump cut, can take it to the house. He didn't catch many balls but from what I saw he was fine. Good vision, especially in open field. Good contact balance. Quick acceleration Weakness IMO is he runs a bit uprightand wasn't used much in the passing game.

I notice on twitter you got some saying he's a good pass blocker and some saying the reverse. His pressure allowed rate is good so that implies he's a good pass blocker. So this time I rewatched a game primarily to look at his pass blocking. He looks fine to good to me on that front in that game. He's a willing blocker, gets in the way of the defender. He's not a violent pass blocker like Treveyon Henderson can be at times or Portis when he was here so maybe some are knocking him for that?

It seems like the ultimate homerism to tout a 7th rounder as a solution. I get in theory it sounds silly. But a few points on that.

1. If there is any spot where late round players succeed quickly in the NFL -- its RB.

2. There is context for why he dropped in the draft. I (and plenty of draftnik types have echoed the same thing) think he'd have gone earlier if this draft wasn't this level deep at RB and he actually played last season versus sitting it out.

3. It's not just homer fans who think this dude could become the #1 RB. Draftniks from all stripes, anayltics, Dynasty guys and the more traditional draft media all see it as possible.

I feel the same way. I can't believe most everyone believe he is a long shot, practice squad candidate or maybe carve out a roll as a 3rd down back. It's not like he's 185 pounds.

On a side note why is it every time I quote a poster there are additional /quotes that I have to manually remove before posting?

I've had no issues with quoting as you've described, nor seen it reported recently, but odd stuff does happen with the software from time to time. I.e. I'll have to hit "submit' twice sometimes for a post to be accepted.

What you describe is obviously a glitch in operation, and the board was acting a bit "glitchy" earlier. But I'll draw @TK and @SWIM attention to it.

We are continuing to gain familiarity with the software for this board and hope to eventually make upgrades.
