PFF liked it (they hated the Kinlaw signing).
Washington Commanders trade for T Laremy Tunsil
2024 PFF Grade: 76.5
2024 PFF WAR: 0.46
PFF Deal Grade: Elite
The biggest move of the opening day of free agency: the Commanders made a splash and landed the fourth-most valuable left tackle in football last season. Tunsil has earned a PFF pass-blocking grade above 85.0 in five of the past six seasons. Adding a franchise left tackle to block for quarterback Jayden Daniels is an elite move.
Here is what they said about Kinlaw.
DI Javon Kinlaw signs with Washington Commanders
2024 PFF Grade: 53.4
2024 PFF WAR: 0.11
Contract: 3 years, $45 million ($30 million guaranteed)
PFF Projected Contract: 2 years, $18 million ($10 million guaranteed)
PFF Deal Grade: Below Average
After four disappointing years with the 49ers, Kinlaw had the best season of his career with the Jets. The former first-round pick’s 68.2 PFF pass-rush grade was a top-30 mark in the league, and he posted a career-high 4.5 sacks. Still, this feels like an overpay by the Commanders, considering he’s now one of the 20 highest-paid defensive tackles despite never earning a 60.0 PFF grade in any of his five seasons.
Still need an edge rusher or this FA is a bust, imo (edit...unless they add Mooney Ward to the secondary).

Not so, Should be a very good edge at 29. I much more would like a CB and there are quite a few out there. Ward, Douglas, Murphy- also good trade back possibilities

Anyone have an estimate on the cap number at this point. I think we started at $75Mish… I’d think Ertz and Bobby eat 12M after signing bonuses… Kinlaw maybe 8M cap hit??? Tunsil somewhere around 20M… so what, maybe we’ve spent $40.

Am I crazy ? 5M for draft picks? 6-8M reserved for in season moves… so we have maybe $25M left to sign 40 players…

Take Mooney Ward off the board. He went to the Colts. Sigh.

Payne is an interesting restructure option. I’m wondering if they rather just pay him and cut him next year if he doesn’t live up to his contract… but $26M is a lot for Payne considering he’s just ok… played like a lion his contract year, land ever since…

Our offense is going to be unstoppable next season. WR and LT were the last two big puzzle pieces.

Eh, I think that ship has sailed Payne has never lived up to his contract. But he's also not good enough to trade and we'd take a big dead cap hit if we tried. They'll cut him after this season I'm guessing (unless he randomly balls out this year, which I doubt).

I’m not sold on Brian Robinson. Also don’t see Deebo as a prototypical WR2. Still have work to do before I consider this a good FA period.
