I'm not even of average hockey intelligence and I can tell you that the dump and chase is not working. Stop doing it, its a turnover every...single...time. We look slow, sloppy and pathetic. It doesn't matter how good we might initially look, all the Canes have to do is wait us out. They'll score and the Caps never will. I mean that literally, the Caps might not get another goal.DCSaints_fan wrote: Mon May 12, 2025 7:51 pmThat PP should tell you all you need to know about this game, and all you need to know abou the series.zSkins wrote: Mon May 12, 2025 7:45 pmJust got a 4 mins PP. If they can't score on this PP then they are done.
Carolina actually had the best scoring chance, and we couldn't get it into their zone with possession but for like 10 seconds.,

Need to look at the deeper question as to why the Caps are dumping the puck so much. The "dump and chase" is somewhat forced on a player when all the passing lanes are jammed and the other team has an aggressive forecheck and backcheck.Simmsy wrote: Mon May 12, 2025 7:54 pmI'm not even of average hockey intelligence and I can tell you that the dump and chase is not working. And its not just moving into their offensive zone ... its happening in our half of the ice with the inabiity to clear it out. As witnessed by that 1.5 minutes the Canes held the puck in our zone prior to the first goal (it was not a direct result of it, but indicative of a deeper problem). Something similiar happend in game 2, a game we happened to win but it was quite disgusting the Canes were able to hold the puck for like over 2 minutes entirely inside our blueline and make multiple shot attempts in the third period.
The passing lanes are jammed because the Canes are always where they are supposed to be.
The Canes are always where they are supposed to be because 1) they're well coached and 2) the Caps are basically allowing them to dictate the pace by not creating time and space.
You create time and space in a few ways. One is by positioning and passing. This has been only partially sucessful - the first half of the first period had two occassions where McMichael and I think Strome got head man passes and had a mostly clear path to the net.
The other way to create time and space is to deck people. But there's not too many Caps that seem willing to do that, and there doesn't appear to be pressure to get them to do so.
Its not really a talent gap here. The NHL is rather unique animal among the big four that the biggest diff amongst the teams is usually not talent, like it definitely is in the NBA, MLB and NFL. And this type of issue isn't caused so much by talent ... its coaching.

Nope. Their goalie better than ours. Can't even stop a guy barreling down on him. Back to down by 2. PP now but nothing will come of it though.JaydenOurSavior16 wrote: Mon May 12, 2025 9:16 pmThey don’t have it in them to beat the canes 3 times in a row….
