Trump voter admits he has 'a little buyer's remorse' after losing a third of his workforce

A roofing company owner in Florida Keys who voted for President Donald Trump is now facing "a little buyer's remorse" after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained one-third of his workforce.

Vincent Cardina, whose team included six Nicaraguan workers, said he never expected his employees — whom he considered friends — to be targeted, as he believed the Trump administration’s immigration policies would focus on deporting criminals.

"It takes a toll. You get to know these guys. You become their friends. Not just an employer but a friend. And you see what happens to the family," he toldNBC 6 South Florida in an interview.

“The situation is blatantly not at all what they said it was,” Cardina admitted to NBC. His business, which has already been affected, joins others in the area that have seen similar fallout.

One landscaper he knows has even gone out of business after losing his entire crew. "It's quite a shock," Cardina added, reflecting on how the detentions are impacting both his business and his workers’ families.

Republican senators mystified by $1 billion added to their megabill

A mysterious $1 billion for a law that lets the president mobilize certain industrial sectors during an emergency is tucked into the Senate’s version of President Donald Trump’s megabill.

And Republicans told Semafor they aren’t sure what that Defense Production Act money is for.

The funding has become something of a mystery among Banking Committee Republicans, who said in interviews this week that they are trying to figure out what the cash is intended to do before they vote on the bill.

But as one Republican senator said about the Trump administration: “They won’t tell us.”

“It’s hard to be supportive of it if we don’t know what it’s for,” Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., said.

“It’s uncomfortable, for sure. A billion dollars is a billion dollars. And it would be nice if we knew what it was specifically aiming at.”

Gas prices are exactly the same here. Fluctuating between $2.70 and $3.30.
