There's no facts to back this "Reese fills seats" rhetoric and has been debunked ad neasium.@DCGoldPants wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:28 amI wonder if they are done, or will try to package more to get up to #1 for Paige Bueckers. I think they know they fucked up last year by passing on Reese, not because her on-the-court play. But because she brought in fans and they would have moved more games to CapOne Arena.
Or, they love having 3, 4, and 6. will add BPA in all those spots and roll young?
You bring in fans by winning or having a generational play that brings in folks that wouldn't normally watch the sport.
Reese isn't that yet. Maybe she will be, but right now she isn't so saying we screwed up because she is is getting annoying hearing.
She's a really good player but also a narcissistic jackass...juice ain't worth the squeeze...

Except last year they literally moved the game when she came to town to CapOne. That happened. That is a fact. They didn't move the game because of any player on the Mystics. Now she's in McDonald's Commercials and on like we said, Cereal Boxes. Doesn't matter how you and I feel about her as a player or her personality. They don't move games to bigger arenas unless there is interest in buying tickets and going in-person. That happened.Renegade7 wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:46 pmThere's no facts to back this "Reese fills seats" rhetoric and has been debunked ad neasium.@DCGoldPants wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:28 amI wonder if they are done, or will try to package more to get up to #1 for Paige Bueckers. We played them 4 times.
The next game was back at Anacostia.
They never played each other at the United Center in Chicago.
You are still avoiding the reality it didn't make a meaningful bump in Chicago's attendance...the only team that saw consistent spikes was Indiana and anyone who played them.
From now on if we're going to say DC coulda been a Women's basketball mecca I'd love to hear why Chicago isnt.
That's not hate, that numbers jus don't match the rhetoric.

Quick google showed the Sky annual went from 144,834 in the 2023 season to 175,148 last year. A 20% bump isn't rhetoric. Though, I think you might mean anecdotal there. Yeah, when Clark came to Chicago, that was the draw. Probably same when the Liberty came to town, Vegas, and maybe Phoenix.
My point in all of this is that if they can move up to #1 for Paige Bueckers or keep all 3 of those high picks. I think they should try to move up and get a player with a national name so more of their games get moved to a bigger arena. Right now they have 4 of their 22 games schedule to be moved. 2 are being moved to where Mason plays. Against Vegas and Chicago for that. Then both games against Indiana are actually being played in Baltimore. Forget Reese, that was my example of last year because her stupid social media following and brand now. Just put in "Popular Player X" there. That's what I mean.

I want what you want, but in a different way.
If this team is good, the fans will come.
I remember when we had our finals games kicked out of capital one for a concert and Seattle destroyed us over at GMU. I was there.
Fast forward to now and Mystics have a championship and their own stadium in Anacostia.
Mystics don't need to be a brand, the wnba needs to focus on not fucking up this moment where they have folks attention and organically grow the league to stop running in the red and pay their players better by gaining more revenue.
We'll get national games if we're good...Bueckers probably is the real deal, but we really should take time to appreciate what Clark has done before saying we need to do the same ourselves.
WNBA grew in attendance by 50% between 2023 and 2024...in huge part because of how massively hyped she was and how well she matched that hype with her dominant play immediately her rookie season.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradadgate ... vertisers/Another indicator of the WNBA’s growing popularity this season was record breaking attendance. According to Timeline, in 2024 attendance increased by nearly 50% from 2023. The average attendance was up by percent double-digits for all 12 franchises
Closest comparison is what LeBron did in Cleveland with all the Witness signs...that's generational and we shouldn't be chasing our own version of that, it's jus too rare.
You are right we need a face of the franchise and one with national name recognition will help us gain more national recognition. But man...the Cowboys are worth $10 billion and an international brand yet no one wants to be there because they are completely dysfunctional and fucking suck.
Indiana got the #1 pick for a reason so they got their work cut out for them to prove they are competent enough to keep Clarke from leaving. This franchise needs to get better at developing their players or Paige won't be able to save us...Austin is pissing me off, I'm tired of defending Aaliyah Edwards.
Opinion.

The NFL is such a different beast. Jerry is a marketing genius because their fans know he's the reason they keep falling short, but they are worth that much and they keep spending.Renegade7 wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 9:58 pmI can dig it.@DCGoldPants wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 5:55 pmQuick google showed the Sky annual went from 144,834 in the 2023 season to 175,148 last year. WNBA right now needs a few teams that are like New York, and then most others to have that name. And look, if Washington keeps all their picks and lands that 6'6 Euro Center, along with one of the guards from ND and maybe another guard. Sellers from Maryland or the Foward from USC. Maybe that translates into excitement if they can be young and fast and win. I'm not saying Bueckers is anything like and Ionescu. But that's what I want. A grinder with some swag who can back it up.
