Iā€™m an outsider, not having grown up in the US, but to me the history is with Washington and not the nickname, logo or what color pants they are wearing this week . šŸ˜

I keep on seeing that Dan came up with Commanders. Why do I think it was Paddleboat Ron who came up with that name, with his military background, and influenced Dan to go with it? Keeping the whole theme with Major Tuddy as well.

Not wild about the name Commanders. I usually just say "Washington" to get around it.

And I'm old so I can remember the days of good with Allen and the days of great with Gibbs, so I'll always think Redskins in my mind. However, I also know that the name was never coming back. Society has moved on for good, bad, and indifferent just like it always does. And a Native American reference isn't going to fly anymore.

Winning changes hearts and minds, and the younger fans will embrace Commanders if the team continues to win. Eventually, it will just be us old farts saying the old name. I'd guess there were cranky guys around in 1933 insisting on calling them the Braves.

I'm 70, been a fan of this team since I was 7. I'm terminally caucasion but when I was a kid I loved playing the "Indian", not the cowboy. When i'd watch the old Disney Daniel Boone TV series, I liked Ed Ames' Mingo. I started shooting bow and throwing hatchets (and knives) when I was twelve.

Not everyone in a demographic fits every stereotype associated with it.

As much as I love our history, the Redskins name, our colors and imagery, I don't dive into deep despair over the changes. I wish it hadn't happened but I get it and am not resentful or overly distraught.

As far as being angry at the reasons why the changes were made, there's a ton of stuff about sports fandom that is childish and silly when you get real about it. And I accept that in myself (like "hating" the cowboys) but don't believe in granting myself carte blanche in that type of indulgence (i.e. the often over the top "Seattle hate" that was too commonplace imo on the old board, despite the various justifications given for it back then, including by some of the mods back at that time.)

I don't share the powerful negative reactions to the name "Commanders", nor do I have any lingering strong resentments over it.

Most teams names, mascots, etc don't wow me for that matter. I find only a very few are actually kind of cool or have a neat story behind them. The majority just leave me "meh". They're pretty much unimaginative and pedestrian.

I am fine with it. I don't love the Commanders but I don't hate it. It's just a name. What matters is the product on the field.

That is where I am at now and was when the name was announced. Really wanted a name that started with a R instead so we could still say HTTR. Redtails or RedWolves probably would have been better though to keep the HTTR.

My wife still says, "Are you on that Redskins forum again?"

Commanders just doesn't roll off your tongue as quickly, I have noticed. Oh well.

The younger people don't have the affinity to the old name like us old farts do  To them the Washington Commanders went to the NFC Championship game in their lifetime and that is what really matters now.

A chunk of fans will never support a name that isn't Redskins. Changing from Commanders doesn't matter because it will always be Redskins for them.

A chunk are fine with Commanders and just want to move on.I don't think many "Love" the name.

And I think the opportunity to grow the brand, even in a non-preferred name is a better option than becoming the RedWolves or whatever.

Just update the uniforms to something closer to the Redskins look. Wear a throwback spear every once and awhile when playing the Cowboys and most will move on and it'll be fine.
I totally agree with this. The folks who are still worked up at the name change from Redskins won't accept anything else. For the rest the new name probably won't be much of an impact on them and not worth all the time and effort that could be better spent doing things that actually matter to winning.

The name Commanders is now associated with Jayden Daniels and winning. It was the highest selling jersey after the new year in every sport. As posted earlier the name Redskins drew laughter and ridicule from opposing fans for decades.

You can make Commanders cool and fun. The problem is the rollout and announcement sucked and that just left a bad taste in our mouth. The logos were plain and uninspiring and the colors were a mess. But Commanders in of itself isn't inheritly a bad name.

You don't have to do a military theme. Commander can fit with like Knights (Knight-Commander). Roman Army stuff (the Romans colors were red and yellow, just saying...). Create a section in the fan stadium called COMMAND CENTRAL. There are possibilities if you have creative people running things.

In the days when naval ships could be renamed after being captured, or just because of a new captain. People used to think renaming a vessel was bad luck. Now teams are not naval vessels of course, but to pull the name when this team is making enough publicity overnight, would just be bad vibes.

I do think they eventually change the name, but such a move needs time. Right now, they still have so much crap that needs fixing. They need a new stadium for one thing. If we change stadiums maybe then or after it could be considered but not right now. Timing matters a lot.

Lord Farquaad said he'd never change the name either, so there is hope
