I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way about Bobby Wagner. I loved the signing, wanted him years ago. And I understand he graded out well. But sorry I just didn't see the impact his numbers would suggest. He sure made a ton of tackles 6 yards downfield. I know others are to blame but it's hard for me to see a defense that was gutted up the middle from Game 1 on and feel that Bobby Wagner was a force on defense.

His leadership will be missed but there are plenty of others to fill that role, if they really want to improve their defense they need to upgrade this position with more speed and playmaking ability IMO.
I think his Run D is still excellent. He's got elite instincts and fits runs early and he is an amazing tackler. My complaint is more that, because he can't cover anyone any more, we'll have to run light boxes or give up easy completions to underneath options. It's a tough choice to have to make.

We need to improve our coverage first and foremost, then the rest of the defense will improve. We've got a chance to get way better in the secondary because I think Lattimore could bounce back big time and Sainristil is rapidly improving. I think one more big time DB and getting a LBer that can cover could put this group over the top. Then we'll start flying around in the run game.

I figure Wagner goes to the Raiders. Reunited with Pete and gets to live close to the West coast where's he based out of. Its a win win for him.
Isn't he attending the MBA program at Howard still?

Don't know how I feel about this. That 5th rounder was a relatively early pick. No we are down to our 1st, 2nd, early 3rd, 6th, and two 7s. Not having a pick between that early 3rd and our late 6th is going to be terrible. I think it is a given we try and trade down from either our 1st or 2nd to recoup some lost draft capital.

Is Dyami gone now with Deebo in?

Deebo should be fine, when he’s available. How often will that be, is the problem.

No way in heck does any Dan Snyder GM manage to sneak Deebo Samuels out of the 49ers building for less than a 3rd. Adam peters did it for only a throw away 5th rder?

Wow.

We need to move on from Wagner even at half that number. His intangibles are strong, but he can't cover anyone any more and it is killer. His run D is so good that you hate to lose that. But even still, we have to play with light boxes, in large part, because he can't cover anyone so that it comes out as a wash for our run D in the end. Also he's not running down the Saquon Barkleys or Bijan Robinsons or James Cooks of the NFL any more.

We need better coverage in our back seven and a big part of that is getting a MIKE who can single cover slot weapons, tight Ys, and backs.

As I said his run defense stats were good but how can we say we got excellent run defense from an inside backer when our run defense was the worst we've seen here in a long time?

The DL was awful. We're probably cutting Jon Allen this year, and Payne next year. The Edge rushers could not keep contain or set an Edge against the run. Like runningbacks needing OL help, Linebackers need help too.
