So it seems the plane was travelling north along the Potomac while the helicopter was travelling south - the collision was more or less head on

What I dont' get is why this is allowed. At least do something like highways where southbound traffic would travel along the east bank and northbound would travel along the west bank

A resolution introduced in the U.S. House last week would redesignate Washington Dulles International Airport as Donald J. Trump International Airport.

H.R. 691 was introduced by Republican Rep. Addison McDowell, and it appears to be similar to one introduced last year by a Pennsylvania representative who’s co-sponsoring this measure.

The new measure has been referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Toll breaks for Virginia drivers? Lawmakers weigh costly proposal

For Virginians who spend hundreds of dollars on tolls each month, relief could be on the horizon — if lawmakers can stomach the price tag.

A proposal to ease toll burdens for frequent drivers and low-income residents cleared a key hurdle in the state legislature this week, as a House Transportation subcommittee advanced the measure for further review.

House Bill 2368, sponsored by Del. Candi Mundon King, D-Prince William, would grant free toll rides to Virginia drivers using an electronic toll device once they hit $200 in monthly charges. Additionally, it would waive tolls for those receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits.

King, whose district includes approximately 42,000 disabled veterans, said the measure would ease the financial strain on commuters who often pay between $25 and $65 each way to travel roughly 29 miles between the Pentagon to Dumfries.

“If you’re a Virginia resident, you’re paying taxes in Virginia, you’re doing everything that you’re supposed to do, and then [you are] paying in perpetuity to ride down [your] own roads, it’s just getting to the point with the high cost of living where it’s a burden for people,” King said.

To prevent abuse, the bill would prohibit drivers from sharing transponders to trigger the toll cap and claim free rides.

But while the plan offers financial relief for commuters, it comes with a hefty price: at least $110.4 million annually, according to the Department of Planning and Budgeting. The subcommittee recommended sending the bill to House Appropriations, where lawmakers will weigh the financial implications — particularly how the cost will be split between private and state toll facilities.

I think you underestimate how sycophantic GOP politicians are. They would happily name something after him. Ideally a waste treatment facility or restrooms. You know, something appropriate.

The pledge will be changed to pledge to Trump.
The USA will be changed to UST with Trump replacing America. The only dead person on currency will be revoked and Trump will be on all currency. All male board children will be required to start with the name Donald.

So naming an airport is only the tip of the iceberg.

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna recently proposed to add President Donald Trump’s face to one of America’s most iconic historical monuments.

“I think it’s a very prestigious thing to do,” a Nebraska woman visiting Mount Rushmore said.

Changing a national monument is a big deal.

“I’ve appreciated what Donald Trump has done, but he has much more to do. This is a work of art, and I just don’t feel comfortable defacing it by changing it at this point,” a Nebraska man said.

The Florida congresswoman argues Trump is deserving because of his economic, foreign policy and national security accomplishments.

“He’s a person that brings so much controversy to everything, I’m afraid that it would make a memorial that should be something we celebrate together, something that wouldn’t be that any longer, at least for this generation,” the Nebraska man added.

The monument with presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln has long been a symbol of history and legacy.

On the stalled push for a Fairfax Co. casino, county leader says, ‘I think it will come up again’

A push to get a casino built in Fairfax County has stalled in the Virginia General Assembly, but Jeff McKay, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, said the issue is likely far from over.

“I appreciate that it’s dead,” McKay said, before adding a significant caveat.

“I think it will come up again,” he continued. “I do think it’ll come back, and if it doesn’t come back with a substantially better revenue share that’s worth even looking at, then we will just fight it like we’ve had to do this time.”

Legislation that could have paved the way for a casino in the Tysons area passed the Senate in a 24-16 vote but ultimately stalled in the House of Delegates.

Supporters argued a casino would generate significant tax revenue for both Fairfax County and the state. Opponents said it would conflict with comprehensive development plans for Tysons that have already been established by local officials.

“We said from the beginning that we didn’t ask for this,” said McKay, who called the proposal a “bad financial deal for Fairfax County.”

“I think they just thought they had a good idea and were going to work around us,” he said. “Clearly, what the community has been saying is that local folks here were not consulted on this. That’s a bad precedent to set, and I think it’s one of the major reasons why the bill failed.”
