A helicopter will spray a thick, brown liquid across parts of Central Pennsylvania today.
According to the York County PA Office of Emergency Management’s Facebook, the PA Department of Environmental Protection says an aerial black fly suppression operation is scheduled for May 27, on the Juniata River, Aughwick Creek, Conodoguinet Creek, Conewago Creek, Sherman Creek, and Swatara Creek.
The DEP says the helicopter will conduct operations in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, and York Counties.
According to the DEP, Helicopter Applicators Inc. will be dispersing Vectobac 12AS, a Bti product created by Valent Biosciences, which is the only product used in Pennsylvania’s waterways for black fly suppression.
The helicopter will fly low near the tree line and release the brown liquid at various predetermined positions, per the DEP.
