I don't see this at all as win later move.
Either way, I expect the Conerly starts (unless he get injured in camp/preseason). The only question is where Any time you can add a starting OL towards the end of the first round, I think that can be applied as win now move. But he'll almost certainly get better with age. He seems to me to be really a high ceiling high floor guy.
There's a lot to like about him. Pretty happy with the pick.

I listened to Conerly on 106.7. Really impressive sounding and smart.
I've listened just about every interview of every draft pick they've picked for two decades plus, this dude was one of the best.
There was a reporter who covered Conerly in Oregon who was interviewed about him recently, and he goes that he's an A plus dude and smart as heck and a football junkie who didn't just study his own assignments but wanted to know the whole offense and how it all fits together.
Peters said that Conerly was among three of the standout dudes based on inteviews. I am not surprised after listening to that interview.

Yeah he does sound super smart SIP. A lot of OLs are football nerds like him, and usually they're the lifers who either end up as really good players or really good analysts/coaches.
The more I learn about Conerly, the more I like the pick. I would've picked Ezeiruaka over him on draft night, but I'm already at the place where I like Conerly more. He's got no asterisks or physical limitations like Ezeiruaka, just a high upside prospect at an ultra-valuable position. My opinion of Conerly was initially colored by the Ohio State cut ups where I was just kind of like
. Looked like a developmental tackle who was under-strength and would need a couple of seasons to become a good NFL starter. But the progress in his season was palpable and it makes sense to view him as a rapidly ascending player, especially when everything points to his character being so good. When Adam Peters has banged the table about a prospect's character being special like he did with Jayden and Mikey, he's been shooting it straight. To my knowledge, he hasn't really done that about anyone where that wasn't the case. These are the guys who end up being our leaders, defining the culture of our team.
Conerly feels like he's going to be one of these core players too, and it also feels like we got him at a really big discount because he entered the draft a year too early. If he stays in school, he's got a great chance at winning the Outland and going in Kelvin Banks Jr territory in '26.
Looking at Conerly's measurables, he's got a really similar body to Brandon Coleman, and has very similar jumps and 10 yard split. Peters has now demonstrated the type of OLs he drafts. I'm going to stop looking at these big slow 6'8 maulers that I always end up liking because these are not the kinds of OLs that Peters prefers when he has choices.

Its not that AP has a type of OL necessarily, but that's who fit our scheme. That's why I was saying that there is 0 chance we draft Tyler Booker. He's a wall and a mauler but not a scheme fit. We need athletic OL who can run and block on the move.GoingCommando wrote: Fri May 02, 2025 9:09 am

Imagine Cosmi (when he's back and healthy) and Connorly on the right side or Tunsil and Coleman on the left side out in space running people over and springing huge Samuel, Lane, and Ekeler runs.
Washington has agreed to contract terms with first round draft pick OL Josh Conerly Jr.
