Musk admits that DOGE may only cut 15 percent of its stated $1 trillion goal - and even that figure may be high

Elon Musk has admitted his Department of Government Efficiency may only cut $150 billion in spending — just 15 percent of his original $1 trillion goal.

Musk told President Donald Trump’s cabinet the revised number in a meeting Thursday, back-tracking on his previous promises to cut $1 trillion in government spending by September 30, the end of the fiscal year.

However, a new analysis from The New York Times reveals that even Musk’s much-smaller goal likely isn’t feasible because DOGE has been inflating its progress with billion-dollar errors and making assumptions about future federal spending that isn’t set in stone.

The Tactics Elon Musk Uses to Manage His ‘Legion’ of Babies—and Their Mothers

Ashley St. Clair wanted to prove that Elon Musk was the father of her newborn baby.

But to ask the billionaire to take a paternity test, the right-wing social-media influencer had to go through Musk’s longtime fixer, Jared Birchall.

“I don’t want my son to feel like he’s a secret,” St. Clair told Birchall in a two-hour phone call in December.

Birchall offered St. Clair some advice. His boss was a “very big-hearted, kind and generous person,” he said. But Musk had a different side. When a mother of his child goes “the legal route” in these discussions, “that always, always leads to a worse outcome for that woman than what it would have been otherwise,” Birchall told the 26-year-old. Plus, he said, Musk wasn’t sure the child was his.

It wasn’t the first such conversation for Birchall. His public job is running Musk’s family office, and he recently helped organize Musk’s more than $250 million push in support of Donald Trump’s election.

Behind the scenes, Birchall also manages the financial and privacy deals Musk wants for the women raising the world’s richest man’s babies.

Musk has had at least 14 children with four women, including the pop musician Grimes and Shivon Zilis, an executive at his brain computer company Neuralink. Multiple sources close to the tech entrepreneur said they believe the true number of Musk’s children is much higher than publicly known.

Musk’s baby-making project is relevant to his ambition for NASA, which he wants to move faster to go to Mars. He said on X that making people multiplanetary is “critical to ensuring the long-term survival of humanity and all life as we know it.”

In Musk’s dark view of the world, civilization is under threat because of a declining population. He is driven to correct the historic moment by helping seed the earth with more human beings of high intelligence, according to people familiar with the matter.

Musk refers to his offspring as a “legion,” a reference to the ancient military units that could contain thousands of soldiers and were key to extending the reach of the Roman Empire.

During St. Clair’s pregnancy, Musk suggested that they bring in other women to have even more of their children faster. “To reach legion-level before the apocalypse,” he said to St. Clair in a text message viewed by The Wall Street Journal, “we will need to use surrogates.”

He has recruited potential mothers on his social-media platform X, according to some of the people.

Musk has used his wealth to buy the silence of some women who have his kids, according to St. Clair as well as other people, text messages and documents reviewed by the Journal.

Nondisclosure clauses are part of some of the payment agreements. If the mothers push back or seek outside counsel, Musk’s advisers, including Birchall, have threatened financial retribution, according to the documents and people.

Tesla Accused of Hacking Customers’ Odometers to Avoid Warranty Repairs
Tesla is being sued for allegedly altering the readings on its own cars’ odometers. A class-action lawsuit filed in California claims that Tesla has been cooking the books, essentially making their vehicles think they’ve traveled more than they have in an alleged scam to bail on repair bills and cut warranty coverage short.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff, Nyree Hinton, the owner of a used 2020 Tesla Model Y, noticed their car was logging way more miles than they were driving. When they bought the car, it had less than 37,000 miles on it. Within six months, it had surpassed 50,000 miles, thus surpassing the car’s bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Trump Fires IRS Commissioner After Treasury Uncovers Musk’s Sneaky Power Play

President Donald Trump has fired acting IRS Commissioner Gary Shapley after learning that Elon Musk placed him there—without the Treasury Secretary’s knowledge or approval.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent went directly to Trump, saying Shapley had been quietly placed into the role at Musk’s direction—completely bypassing the Treasury Department. Bessent told Trump he had not approved or even been informed of the move.

As reported by The New York Times, Trump quickly gave the green light to reverse the decision. Shapley is out, and Deputy Treasury Secretary Michael Faulkender is expected to step in as the new acting commissioner.

This behind-the-scenes shakeup appears to be the latest fallout in growing tensions between Bessent and Musk.

Last week, Musk publicly criticized Bessent on X (formerly Twitter), reposting a thread by far-right activist Laura Loomer. The post accused Bessent of being linked to anti-Trump figures. Musk added just one word to the post: “Troubling.”

The ‘5 things’ emails are going by the wayside as Musk readies his exit

When Elon Musk and President Donald Trump commanded all federal workers to submit weekly emails listing five accomplishments, they warned of harsh consequences: Failure to comply would count as a resignation. Musk called the emails an accountability measure needed to ensure that staff even had a “pulse.”

But records obtained by The Washington Post, as well as interviews with three dozen managers and employees across government, reveal that officials refused to comply with core aspects of the directive from the beginning.

In a briefing for top human resources officers across government held just two days after Musk’s directive went out to all federal employees on Feb. 22, the Office of Personnel Management said the initiative was voluntary and noncompliance would not be considered a resignation, according to an email obtained by The Post.

Further undermining Musk’s effort, OPM leaders said in the briefing that the agency did not intend to do anything with the messages that employees did submit, the email stated.

As the billionaire prepares to exit government later this year and his influence appears to be waning, the conflicting messages and confusion have had a predictable result. As of this month, agencies maintain an inconsistent patchwork of policies on the email responses, according to the Post analysis and the employees, all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.

It is unclear precisely when Musk will leave the government; his status as a special government employee is expected to expire at the end of May. The billionaire is ready to exit because he is tired of fielding what he views as a slew of nasty and unethical attacks from the political left, according to a person familiar with his thinking.
