Exactly. I disliked the name as well but it's more and more less associated with Daniel Snyder and more associated with Jayden Daniels and winning. You have to be pretty old (and I am) to associate Redskins with anything we can be proud of.Warhead36 wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 12:08 pmThe Redskins sucked for an entire generation. An entire generation grew up being mocked for being a fan of this team. "Deadskins" etc.
Now you have a new generation that sees the COMMANDERS as winners. The COMMANDERS have Jayden Daniels. The COMMANDERS went to an NFC Title game. etc.
Its a new era now. Embrace it or get out. That's the message Josh Harris is delivering.
Sad news- Name is staying.

And that will continue to grow as the years go on.Warhead36 wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 12:08 pmThe Redskins sucked for an entire generation. PS This board is screwed up. Every time I make an edit to a post it adds quotes and screws up the formatting.

Could you kind of explain what you are noticing and I will work on getting it fixed? I notice to me that the edit and quote buttons are close and you can quote your own post so I end up pressing the quote instead of edit; are you sure you aren’t doing the same thing?Darrell Green Fan wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 5:06 pmExactly. You had me until you blasphemied the black jerseys...Warhead36 wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 4:16 pmIt makes sense. Another name change would just be exhausting, and coming off a 12 win season and NFC Title game appearance has allowed fans to rally around the Commander name.
There will be a jersey and logo rebrand though, which is great news. I can live with the Commie name but the current logo is boring af and the jerseys suck (red isn't bad but white is bad and black is trash).

I'm on the wrong side of 60 and love the Redskins name and hate that they bent over and changed the name. I still feel uncomfortable calling them the "Commanders" in conversations. It just doesn't feel right.
That said....I get it.....the team has sucked under the Redskins moniker for years, (indeed a lifetime for younger fans), and they need to appeal to the younger generation who will be watching games, buying gear and helping sustain fandom..

Looks like it worked this time. Looks like the edit button is 2 away from the quote button, not sure I was making that mistake consistantly but there's always a chance. Thanks.
OMG, that was totally me as a kid. I’m still a sucker for the underdog to this day. I’ll never forget the headlines after we beat the Cowturds in the NFC Championship game, “Computer rejects beat computer selections.” I was in absolute nirvana.Jumbo wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 12:02 pmI'm 70, been a fan of this team since I was 7. I'm terminally caucasion but when I was a kid I loved playing the "Indian", not the cowboy. When i'd watch the old Disney Daniel Boone TV series, I liked Ed Ames' Mingo. I started shooting bow and throwing hatchets (and knives) when I was twelve.
Not everyone in a demographic fits every stereotype associated with it.
As much as I love our history, the Redskins name, our colors and imagery, I don't dive into deep despair over the changes. I wish it hadn't happened but I get it and am not resentful or overly distraught.
As far as being angry at the reasons why the changes were made, there's a ton of stuff about sports fandom that is childish and silly when you get real about it. And I accept that in myself (like "hating" the cowboys) but don't believe in granting myself carte blanche in that type of indulgence (i.e. the often over the top "Seattle hate" that was too commonplace imo on the old board, despite the various justifications given for it back then, including by some of the mods back at that time.)
I don't share the powerful negative reactions to the name "Commanders", nor do I have any lingering strong resentments over it.
Most teams names, mascots, etc don't wow me for that matter. I find only a very few are actually kind of cool or have a neat story behind them. The majority just leave me "meh". They're pretty much unimaginative and pedestrian.
The name is growing on me a little though. Now, I only abhor it when I used to detest it. Maybe by the time hit old age it’ll be up to meh for me. I still can’t stand the stupid taco holder logo though. Maybe he’ll throw us a bone on that one.
The one thing I do really like about the rebrand totally took me by surprise. I generally have viewed the black unis as gimmicky. However, damn if our colors don’t make it pop!
Paging Mrs. Sisko. You’ve got a drinking buddy!zSkins wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 5:31 pmThat is where I am at now and was when the name was announced. Really wanted a name that started with a R instead so we could still say HTTR. Redtails or RedWolves probably would have been better though to keep the HTTR.abdcskins wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 3:51 pmI am fine with it. I don't love the Commanders but I don't hate it. It's just a name. What matters is the product on the field.

I really can't bear the back jersey.Renegade7 wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 11:32 pmYou had me until you blasphemied the black jerseys...Warhead36 wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 4:16 pmIt makes sense. That doesn't have any tie to the team in any way, and that's the part of the NFL I don't like teams wearing uni, or all black uniform just so they kinda look great... Not in my view.
I'm still not a fan of the commanders name, and logo is even worse. We went from one of the coolest one to one of the worst.
That whole rebrand was done badly from the beginning until the end. They got everything wrong and more. Mainly because the people behind it just sucked top to bottom. I get the fact that the name may be attached to Daniels, winning and so on, but that's still linked to Dan Snyder as well in my mind.
For that single reason I wish they would change the name, just to get rid of danny boy once for all.
