It would make sense to gain draft capital and start a rebuild. The problem is, they are currently more than 30 mil over the cap and a Garrett trade makes that about 16.5 mil worse. Meanwhile, they don't really have players they can just cut to make cap space pre-June 1 (Conklin would be the biggest savings, and that is only about 4.5 mil).CobraCommander wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 10:52 amIf they're smart they will. They need to start over and get draft picks. Trading what they did for Deshaun set them back but they can blow it up and start fresh if they trade.Darrell Green Fan wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 9:37 amThere is no way Jerry is trading Parsons to a division team. I'm not convinced the Browns will trade Garrett.
So the only way to be able to trade Garrett is restructures and June 1 moves, all of which push cap hits into that future they would theoretically be building towards. And right now, in 2026 they have over 180 mil committed to only 4 players (Watson, Denzel Ward, Jerry Jeudy and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah) plus dead money hits on contracts that void. (Not counting Garrett's 20+ mil for that year because the discussion is trading him)
